Filinta Mustafa History:
Filinta Mustafa Set in 19th century Istanbul, Filinta follows the adventures and intrigues of ‘Filinta Mustafa’ – a police officer. Unfairly accused of a heinous crime, he must fight to clear his name “and save his life”, while also investigating ongoing cases.
Basically, Murdoch goes to Istanbul, but with fewer forensics and more “acupuncture”. The first season is fun fun, but the second season starts to “lose it”. It reminds me of how much fun the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie was, but then the franchise started to falter in clichés and poor plot development. This group of assassins they created, trained in Greco-Roman weapons and funky hairstyles, is very similar to Conan the Barbarian or a Class B video game. Now we’re fast-forwarding episodes on Netflix, which we never did in season one. I’m not sure if season 2 can sustain my interest through another 70 episodes. My review for season 1 only.
It captured my imagination and attention like nothing else. I do not speak Turkish, although I am a true student of world history and cultures, and I was quite fascinated by the Ottoman inclination towards them. Convincing and emotionally complex and thus not typical of US or UK style. I didn’t know that I started with the best TV series in Turkey. She deserves my full attention and heart.
Filinta, on the other hand, brought a breath of fresh air to Turkish television. The action scenes are so professional that I’ve never seen them on any other series before. When a Turkish TV series becomes popular, the script is usually lengthened with the same events until viewers get bored. But in every episode of Filinta there is always a different case that the characters have to solve. I don’t think I’ll ever get bored of this TV series.
